The City of PUERTO PRINCESA, the seat of government and the capital of Palawan, is the gateway to some of the best tourist destinations at the westernmost area in the Philippines – Coron, El Nido and Port Barton to its north and the Balabac group of islands to its south. But there is no reason to travel far as this first-class municipality also owns a string of top-notch tourist spots at its bustling city proper or even at its nearby beautiful islets. Although an urbanized city, Puerto Princesa occupies a solid landmass of verdant forest, high mountain areas, and scenic coastlines. It is also situated off the typhoon belt and away from any geological fault line making it an ideal tourist spot all year round. Ultimately, Puerto Princesa is a fountain of beautiful scenery, an out-in-the-open gift of nature that tirelessly keeps on giving. On this tour, you will visit Palawan Rescue and Wildlife Centre, Bakers Hill, Mitra Ranch, Baywalk, Plaza Cuartel, Immaculate Conception Cathedral Church with a quick stop off at tiange-tiange (souvenir shopping). Visit Puerto Princesa's Palawan Rescue and Wildlife Centre (formerly known as the Crocodile Farm), which is part of a repopulation program. Mitra's Ranch is a sprawling property with a log cabin and a beautiful veranda, giving you much room to explore, relax, and take in the sights across Honda Bay. Baker’s Hill is a treat for all sweet-toothed people, with sweets, baked goods, and delicious bread, all available to buy. There is a shaded area with places to sit and eat, with cafes and cantina's, whilst children can enjoy many of the display and play areas featured. The City Baywalk is a long stretch of promenade, well-paved walkway right beside the bay. It's Puerto Princesa's version of Manila Bay except perhaps this is neater, the air is fresher, the water is cleaner. The kilometer or so cemented walkway is lined with palm trees, some flowers and lamp posts, benches and of course the view of the bay.
Visit Plaza Quartel
Plaza Cuartel is the site of Palawan Massacre. The tunnels were where 150 American prisoners of war were kept during World War II. But on December 14, 1944, the Japanese decided to kill them all by burning them alive. Many perished but eleven prisoners were able to survive and escape the mass execution.
Visit Immaculate Conception Cathedral
This cathedral is a historical landmark where Puerto Princesa's first mass was held in 1872. At that time, the Spanish expedition also proclaimed that the Immaculate Conception of Mary is the patroness of Puerto Princesa. Painted light blue, the cathedral has pointed symmetrical arches redolent of Gothic architecture. A parish was initially erected here, followed by the current structure built in 1961, almost a century later. The cathedral houses some of the finest examples of wood carvings found on the island, which were made by the craftsmen in the Iwahig Penal Colony.
Visit Crocodile Farm
The crocodile farm is not just a popular tourist destination, it also serves as a research center for those who study conservation and Palawan's endangered species. It is run by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Visit Mitra Ranch
Owned by the family of the late Senator Ramon Mitra, this is a popular tourist destination. Located in Sta Monica Heights, this piece of paradise offers a stunning view of Puerto Princesa City. There is a view deck on top of the hill and it’s open to everyone who wants to have a relaxing time.
