Puerto Princesa

Subterranean River National Park

The famous Palawan Underground River is located in the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, about 80 kilometers from the eponymous city. This park is covered by tropical forest and teeming with wildlife: monitor lizards, birds and monkeys. Saint Paul Beach, at its entrance, is also one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

The subterranean river is the underground section of the Cabayugan River. It is 8.2 kilometers long and navigable up to 4.3 kilometers, although most tours only penetrate up to 1.5 kilometers inside the cave. This unique geological formation was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. And it’s been selected as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in 2012.

Local authorities manage the park that you can visit through the services offered by tour operators in Puerto Princesa. You can reach it either by boat from Sabang wharf or by a jungle trek that takes about 2 hours.
